La Plaine, 2015

Installation

Photographies

This work was carried out from an urban exploration in the La Plaine Saint Denis area, an area located in the northern suburbs of Paris.

The painting consists of egg cartons, around 300 photographs and a Judah eye. The photographs were glued on both sides of the boxes. On the surface we can see different places of La Plaine Saint Denis, without any presence of life and the images compose a story on “places in waiting”: functional spaces which have no soul most of the time but which are “Activated” a few minutes a day by human activity. Inside, you can find photographs of locals, businesses and traffic areas. Next to the painting, the eye of Judah is hung by a thread. The viewer is thus encouraged to use the object and take a closer look at everything inside, the lives of others.
